One hour before fatally driving north on Interstate-95’s southbound lane, driver William Ronald Ferguson had stabbed his girlfriend twice in the neck, according to the police report.

The couple had arrived in Miami from Ohio with a 1-year-old baby a few hours before the assault. Around 7 p.m., Ferguson, 27, went downstairs to get their belongings from the car. The victim told the police that when he returned, he was acting “paranoid” and was convinced people were watching him.

Ferguson proceeded to lock himself in a room and began arguing with his girlfriend from the other side of the door. He soon exited with a knife, stabbing the girlfriend twice on the left side of her neck and once in the arm.

Ferguson was believed to be “possibly on drugs” during the attack, according to the report.

After the woman shrieked for help, Ferguson fled the scene in his SUV.

Within the hour, he drove the wrong way down I-95, causing a collision that killed one driver and shut down all southbound lanes for the evening. One additional driver was hospitalized.

Both Ferguson and his girlfriend were separately transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center. The baby, in a different room during the attack, was unharmed.

Ferguson has been taken into custody and charged with battery, according to the report.
