Body found in seaweed during Hurricane Irma cleanup in Coconut Grove

A cleanup crew outside the Mutiny Hotel found a partially decomposed body under a pile of seaweed and just across the road from the Seminole boat ramp in Coconut Grove Thursday afternoon.

It wasn’t immediately clear if the body was a man or a woman and police were at the scene on South Bayshore Drive just north of Peacock Park. Though police had released no information by 3 p.m., a source confirmed a body had been found.

Police, who were at the scene, didn’t comment publicly on the body.

The Coconut Grove waterfront where the body was found was one of the hardest hit sections in Miami-Dade. Salt water from Biscayne Bay flooded across South Bayshore Drive and lapped at the condos and hotels that line the west of the street.

The hurricane sunk dozens of boats and sent sailboats onto shore.
