Brothers Arrested After Weapons Found in Car at High School

Two brothers were arrested after a firearm and weapons were found inside of their vehicle that was parked in the lot of their Miami-Dade high school.

Miami-Dade County Public Schools officials confirmed Friday two Miami Palmetto Senior High School male students, 15 and 17 years old, were arrested Oct. 1 on campus. NBC 6 is not naming the students because they are minors.

Miami-Dade police came to the school and searched the 17-year-old’s vehicle after receiving an anonymous tip, according to an arrest report. Officers found a loaded handgun, brass knuckles and two knives inside the car.

The 17-year-old was arrested along with his 15-year-old brother, police said. The two face charges of possessing firearm and weapons on school property.

They will not be returning to school, according to a call parents received Friday.

“Thanks to the actions of an alert and responsible student who reported suspicious activity, Miami-Dade Schools Police officers arrested two students for possession of a weapon in their vehicle,” MDCPS officials said in a statement. “There is no indication that the firearm was brought into school, but police will continue to investigate. Schools remain the safest place for students and employees, as long as we continue working together, understanding the importance of initiatives such as ‘See Something, Say Something.'”
