On Tuesday, Broward Sheriff’s Office announced Colonel Nichole Anderson would be the agency’s second in command following the resignation of Colonel Sean Zukowsky.

Anderson’s selection is a historical one as she will be the first African-American female to hold the position of Undersheriff.

It’s not the first time Anderson has made history with BSO. In 2011, she was the first African-American female captian to head a district command as chief of the South Broward District.

In January 2017, Anderson became the first African-American female promoted to the rank of major.
