Broward Sheriff’s officials have completed an internal affairs investigation into the deadly mass shooting inside Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School over one year ago – a shooting that has led to the department’s former boss being suspended and fighting to get his job back.
BSO Sheriff Gregory Tony will address the report at a Wednesday press conference.
The investigation’s conclusion comes just one week after the man Tony replaced, Scott Israel, testified in Tallahassee in an effort to get his job back. Israel was suspended earlier this year by Governor Ron DeSantis over his handling of the shooting and the events that led up to it.
Earlier this month, former BSO deputy Scot Peterson was charged in the incident that killed 17 people on February 14, 2018 at the Parkland school.
Peterson, who had served as a resource officer at the school for years, had come under fire from the parents and families of victims after surveillance video showed him staying outside of a building while confessed shooter Nikolas Cruz was inside.
