Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies have named the teenager who collapsed during his P.E. class at the Somerset Academy Village charter school in Wilton Manors.
BSO identified the 14-year-old as Kamarr Scott; they are continuing to investigate the incident. Family members told Herald news partner CBS 4 that the teenager didn’t have any medical problems and hoped to one day play pro football.
Wilton Manors police responded to the school, 225 NW 29th St., at about 10:45 a.m. Thursday and found the teenager had collapsed in his gym class. Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue took him to Broward Health Medical Center, where he later died.
The family told CBS 4 that Scott was ordered to run an additional eight laps on the track as possible punishment, but he collapsed on the seventh lap.
“I’m going through a rough time because that was my baby,” Kamarr’s grandmother Rita Green told CBS 4.
BSO deputies had no information on what caused the student to collapse.
