A woman and baby were able to escape a morning fire inside a Deerfield Beach apartment Friday – with crews rescuing their beloved family pet trapped inside.

Crews responded to the blaze inside of an apartment at Heritage Circle Apartments located at 4344 NW 9th Avenue just before 10:30 a.m.

The mother and 11 month old toddler who were inside at the time made it out without injury, but fire fighters had to put out the fire while searching for “Marley”, a four year old Chihuahua. Eventually, the blaze was put out and the dog was reunited with her owner.

An investigation continues into the cause of the fire, which caused significant damage.
