With a little over a week left until Election Day, nearly 3 million Floridians have already taken advantage of early voting – making some races even that more competitive. On this week’s program, we focus on one such race – Florida’s 26th U.S. Congressional District. Stretching from western Miami-Dade County to Key West, this district is one of the most competitive in the county, in the biggest swing state.
Former Congressman Joe Garcia, who is seeking a return to the House of Representatives after losing to Carlos Curbelo* in 2014, joins us to discuss topics ranging from insurance rates to the environment. He also explains his “evolved” stance on the closing of Guantanamo Bay, whether he agrees with Hillary Clinton’s tax plan, and suggests the creation of a “Venezuelan Adjustment Act”, similar to the current Cuban Adjustment Act (‘Wet Foot, Dry Foot’).
Be sure to stay tuned to the end of the program for the latest in our Voter Voices series – you’ll meet Isa, a naturalized citizen and first-time voter in the U.S.
Guest:
Former U.S. Rep. Joe Garcia (D), Candidate, U.S. Rep. District 26
*Both the Republican and Democratic candidates were invited to take part in the program. Due to a last minute scheduling conflict, Republican Incumbent, Congressman Carlos Curbelo was not able to attend.
