A freight train struck and killed a person early Thursday in Oakland Park, the Broward Sheriff’s Office said.
The fatal crash between a CSX train and a pedestrian happened shortly before 4 a.m. near West Prospect Road and Powerline Road.
Because of the crash, westbound Commercial Boulevard is closed to traffic at the I-95 exit ramp. As alternates, drivers can use westbound Cypress Creek Road and Oakland Park Boulevard.
The crash is also affecting passengers of the Tri-Rail commuter train system, which shares the tracks with CSX.
In an alert to passengers, Tri-Rail says passengers may experience delays of up to an hour Thursday morning.
The rail line has set up a bus bridge to take riders between the Cypress Creek and Fort Lauderdale stations.
Details about the fatal crash were not immediately available.
