Florida International University’s deputy police chief was booked into jail early Saturday on allegations he attacked police officers at a Coral Gables bar and restaurant.

Benjamin Guerrero, 61, was charged with three counts of battery on a law enforcement officer, and one count of disorderly conduct.

According to authorities, Guerrero on Friday night was asked to close out his tab and leave Hillstone, the popular Miracle Mile eatery and bar. He refused.

Off-duty Coral Gables officers working security there asked him to leave, and after he wouldn’t, one grabbed him to escort him out and he elbowed the cop, authorities said.

He also cursed at officers during the scuffle and smelled of alcohol, authorities say.

Gurrero is the deputy chief over investigations and compliance, and has been with FIU police since April 2013. Before that, he was an attorney with the Florida Department of Children and Families, and also spent nearly three decades with the Miami-Dade Police Department.

He earned his law degree from FIU in 2007, according to the Florida Bar.
