Five Dead After Plane Crashes Into Lake Okeechobee in Palm Beach County

Five people are dead after a plane crashed in Palm Beach County, officials said Friday night.

According to NBC affiliate WPTV, the twin-engine Piper aircraft went down in Lake Okeechobee while approaching an airport in Pahokee Friday at around 3:30 p.m.

WPTV reports that the flight departed from Tampa International Airport.

The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s office says the death investigation will be handled by Palm Beach Sheriff’s Office Violent Crimes Division. The crash itself will be investigated by the FAA and NTSB.

The victims involved in the crash have not yet been identified.
