Former South Florida high school football player killed in double homicide, cops say

Trey Ingraham, once a member of the football teams at Lantana’s Santaluces Community High School and Boca Raton’s Pope John Paul II High School, was one of two men murdered inside a Daytona Beach apartment.

Ingraham and Jordan Paden, both 19 and roommates, were found dead inside their unit at the Jade Park Apartment Homes Friday night, according to Daytona Beach Police.

They may have been dead since Thursday, since neighbors reportedly heard gunshots Thursday night but failed to call authorities, according to West Palm Beach’s WPTV NBC5.

On Saturday, police released the victims’ names and said they have a “person of interest” in the double homicide who may have stayed at the apartment with the two men — Ingraham, the primary tenant, according to The Daytona Beach News-Journal.

After playing wide receiver and cornerback for the Santaluces and Pope John Paul II football teams, Ingraham, who was nicknamed Ace and who once eyed a career in the NFL while at Santaluces, took up boxing.

He also studied at Bethune-Cookman University but was not enrolled at the time of his death.

His death touched many who had come across him on the football field, including Quintin Betancur who, in 2010, volunteered as a coach of the West Boynton Football League for children ages 13 and younger.

“Very saddened by the news I received this morning of Trey Ingraham passing,” Betancur said on Twitter Saturday. “Rest In peace to a great football player and an even better kid.”

Police are investigating.
