Biden ended his speech by telling his supporters it’s important to choose hope over fear and to let everyone know who they are.
Former Vice President Joe Biden, cosndiered by many to be the front runner for the Democratic nomination from President in 2020, made a campaign stop in the heart of Calle Ocho.
“We need to restore the soul of America, we have been here before,” Biden told the crowd of supporters outside the Ball and Chain club in Little Havana.
Biden said the middle class is the backbone of America and then went on to discuss the need for temporary protected status for Venezuelans.
“It’s not an argument, we should just do it,” Biden said. “We’ve done it before, that’s who we are.”
Biden also talked about his personal experience dealing with Venezuela’s Nicolas Maduro, a notorious name for many in South Florida.
“The fact of the matter is I told him we would talk with him if he did the following things, starting with setting up elections, making sure he released political prisoners, a whole range of things,” Biden said. “That kind of ended our conversation.”

Earlier in the day, Biden his most expansive speech yet on race, calling on the nation to live up to its founding ideals and saying that silence on racism amounts to complicity while delivering the keynote address at services marking the 56th anniversary of the deadly bombing of Birmingham’s 16th Street Baptist Church.
