HAITI JOURNAL: Haiti’s Economic Development

On February 24th, 2015, Marriot International opened a 175-room hotel in Haiti — a $45 million investment in partnership with Digicel, the Caribbean cellphone company based in Haiti. With an estimated unemployment rate of 40.6% , this new hotel is expected to employ 200 Haitian residents. But will foreign investments, such as this, actually help improve Haiti’s economy?
