Headless woman found in trash bin killed and abused by her nephew, police say

The nephew of a woman found dead — and without a head — in a Hialeah trash bin earlier this week was arrested late Wednesday night for her murder, law enforcement sources said.

Edwin Ramirez-Mejia, 27, was booked into the Turner Guilford Knight correction center on charges of second-degree murder and abusing a dead body. No bond had been set by Thursday morning.

As of Thursday, police still had not named the woman who was found Monday in a trash bin at a company called Waste Connection, 4250 NW 37th Ct.

Employees discovered the partially decomposed and headless body of the woman on Monday. Hialeah police Lt. Carl Zogby said the body was in “rough shape” and that there was no telling if the woman’s head was taken off by some type of heavy machinery at the plant.

The weather, there had been lots of rain when the body was discovered, also was no help and probably helped the corpse to decompose, Zogby said.

Police did not comment on the arrest early Thursday.
