One-hundred dogs displaced by Hurricane Irma are getting a chance at starting anew in South Carolina.
On Wednesday, the furry survivors were taken to a 40,000-square-foot emergency shelter in Duncan, as Miami-area shelters looked to clear space for new rescues, Miami-Dade Animal Services spokeswoman Lilian Bohorquez said.
Dogs were loaded into orange carriers stacked in the rear of an American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals relocation vehicle, before making the more than 700-mile journey north, where they will eventually go up for adoption.
