Medicaid expansion has long been an issue that’s divided the Florida Legislature. This week, the state’s Senate Health Policy Committee, approved a comprehensive proposal to allow the use of billions of federal dollars to fill in a healthcare coverage gap that affects almost a million low-income residents. Aside from covering the uninsured, supporters say filling this gap could fund hospitals and create more healthcare jobs throughout the state, causing great economic impact. But first, the proposal needs to pass in the more conservative Florida House — many are doubtful it will.
