Last week, Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Gimenez proposed a plan to privatize Vizcaya Museum and Gardens. The plan, which has already drawn some criticism, would turn over control of the historic site to a non-profit board. In opposition are County Commissioner Xavier Suarez, who is toying with the idea of running for mayor, and school board member Raquel Regalado, who is officially running against Gimenez. Both argue that there should be other options on the table. Interestingly, those that work at Vizcaya are in favor of a public-private partnership — so what does the plan entail?
