ISSUES: Zika Virus – Update & Prevention

This week, a mother from Haiti gave birth to a baby with Zika-related microcephaly – which is characterized by a noticeably underdeveloped head – right here in Florida. Up until now, most travel-related cases of the Zika virus have originated from countries in South America – but the island nation of Haiti is less than 700 miles from Miami. Is enough being done to prevent this mosquito-borne virus, or is it just a matter of time before we see cases originating in South Florida?
