Miami-Dade police were intensely searching a Northwest Miami-Dade neighborhood late Wednesday night for a man who the department says shot at detectives and then took off.

Police say no detectives were injured in the shooting, but it was “very important” to locate the man who is considered armed and dangerous.

“He’s on the roam with a gun,” said Lee Cowart, a police spokesman. “We want to do everything possible to apprehend him.”

Cowart said detectives in specialized units were in the area of the 3000 block of Northwest 77th Street when they spotted a man with a gun at about 8:30 p.m.

The man — who has not yet been identified or described — “discharged the weapon at officers,” Cowart said.

Police were using a helicopter and K-9 units to search several blocks for the man.

Anyone with information is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS (8477).
