Marlins Release 2018 Regular Season Schedule

The Miami Marlins released their full schedule for the 2018 regular season on Tuesday.

The season will begin on March 29th, which will be a relatively early start to a campaign. The Marlins will start the year at Marlins Park and will welcome in some exciting teams right at the start.

The Chicago Cubs will make a visit to Miami for four games to begin the season, with exact game times still to be announced. Following the Cubs, it will be Boston’s turn to visit Marlins Park. This series against the Red Sox will only last two games, but the Marlins will also visit Fenway Park later in the season.

The schedule will also feature four games against the New York Yankees, with two coming in each team’s stadium. Assuming he is approved by the league, Derek Jeter could be running the Marlins during those games. Jeter served as New Yorl’s captain during his playing days and there should be plenty of intrigue in these contests.

Miami’s toughest road trip of the season may come during the first full month of play. In mid-April, the Marlins will travel to the Bronx, Milwaukee and Los Angeles. In all, Miami will have nine games against the Yankees, Brewers and Dodgers. All three of those teams are expected to contend for the playoffs next season, while Miami’s roster situation could be fluid.

In addition to the Yankees and Red Sox, the Marlins will play interleague games against the Toronto Blue Jays, Tampa Bay Rays and Baltimore Orioles. Unlike recent years, the Rays and Marlins will play six times in 2018. The rivals will have one series at Tropicana Field and another at Marlins Park. Each series will last three games.

An earlier start to the season, also means no scheduled October baseball. Miami’s regular season will come to a close on September 30th with three games in New York against the Mets. This could be a tremendous series for both teams, depending on decisions made this off-season. The Mets usually try to contend, while the Marlins have some core parts to make another run.
