Miami Beach is the epicenter of tourism in South Florida, especially the beach. In an effort to keep the area safe, a new beach curfew will take effect starting Saturday.
Beachgoers will not be allowed on the sand in Miami Beach after 10 p.m., rather than at midnight, until 4:59 a.m.
Miami Beach commissioners voted unanimously to close the city’s sandy white beaches two hours earlier. Some tourists have mixed feelings about the early closing.
“It’s a good thing because maybe people or more safe, but they do not have the freedom of going to the beach when they want,” one tourist told NBC 6’s Darryl Forges.
City leaders say the new curfew will reduce late night crimes on the beach that target tourists and residents.
