Miami-Dade Corrections Officer Arrested on Domestic Battery Charge

A Miami-Dade Corrections officer was arrested on a domestic battery charge after police say he choked a woman in her Miami Gardens home.

Tarvos Terrail Alford, 49, was arrested early Wednesday on charges of domestic battery by strangulation and tampering with a victim, an arrest report said.

The report said the alleged victim told detectives she was sleeping in her bedroom when Alford entered the home and started knocking on her bedroom door demanding his uniform.

She said Alford arrived belligerent and appeared to be intoxicated, the report said. She said he pulled on her hair and wrapped his hands around her neck, then forced her to the floor and pinned her there with his knee between her neck and cheek to prevent her from breathing, the report said.

The woman was able to call police and was heard saying “get off of me” by a 911 operator, the report said. Officers arrived and took Alford into custody.

Alford was given house arrest and told to stay away from the alleged victim by a judge during an appearance in bond court Wednesday. Attorney information wasn’t available.
