A South Florida man was arrested after police say he inappropriately touched a young girl at a swimming pool.
Jozef Opdeweegh, 51, surrendered to police Monday to face a charge of lewd and lascivious molestation of a child under 12, according to a Miami-Dade Police arrest report.
According to the report, a 6-year-old girl claimed Opdeweegh touched her privates over her bathing suit three times while she was inside the pool of her apartment complex in the 8100 block of Southwest 72nd Avenue.
Opdeweegh appeared in bond court Tuesday morning, where his attorneys argued for his release.
“My understanding is that there was a pool party and there were lots of people in the pool, and kids were being thrown around the pool, not different type of circumstances that occur in lots of pools in South Florida, throughout the summer months especially, where dads and moms are in the pool throwing their kids around,” attorney Dennis Kainen said.
Miami-Dade Judge Mindy Glazer said the arrest report was “deficient” and asked for another hearing on Wednesday morning.
