Doctors in England made a shocking discovery during a routine eye surgery, removing more than two dozen contact lenses from a British woman’s eye.
The 67-year-old patient had no previous complaints about her eye and went in to undergo cataract surgery, according to a report published in British Medical Journal.
As doctors prepared for the surgery, they claimed they found 17 lenses clumped together and bound by mucus. A surgeon later found 10 more contact lenses during a microscopic examination, the report said.
The 67-year-old had worn monthly contact lenses for 35 years, but rarely visited the eye doctor.
Experts say this case is very rare. However, it does serve as a good reminder about proper contact care and getting regular check-ups.
