Did MTV’s “Jersey Shore: Family Vacation” shoot in an illegal rental in Miami Beach?
The popular reality series filmed last January and February at a waterfront estate at 4745 Pine Tree Dr., which is in a part of the city where short-term rentals for less than six months and a day are illegal, according to The Miami Herald.
Miami Beach is known for aggressively cracking down on short-term rental scofflaws who face $20,000 fines.
A city spokesperson told the Herald that the city found no violations against the property when the production company, 495 Productions, requested the permit to shoot at the house.
“It’s not always easy to find the illegal short-term rental address or properties,” city spokeswoman Tonya Daniels told the Herald. “There is no 100 percent fail-proof guaranteed way for us to check if this is an illegal short-term rental.”
The property doesn’t come up on the city’s website as an approved short term vacation rental.
Because of the media inquiries, the city imposed a fine on the estate, which is owned by James Wieger, according to property records.
The two-story, eight-bedroom house is the backdrop for the current reality series that reunited cast members Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi, Jennifer Lynn “Jenni” Farley, Deena Nicole Cortese, Paul DelVecchio, Vinny Guadagnino, Ronnie Ortiz-Magro, and Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino.
“Family Vacation” debuted April 5 and airs Thursdays at 9 p.m. MTV has already ordered another season, but the location has not been announced.
