Nine counties in Florida under a tornado watch as Irma draws near

With Hurricane Irma hours away from South Florida, the National Weather Service issued a tornado watch in nine counties.

People in Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties, as well as Charlotte, Collier, Glades, Hendry, Lee and mainland Monroe should watch for tornadoes until midnight.

Tornadoes are a common result of the whirling winds hurricanes bring ashore.
