A 911 call about someone firing a weapon outside of the Lauderhill Mall Thursday led to a massive response by police and the Broward Sheriff’s Office but no gunman was found, according to investigators.
Police arrived shortly after the call was made at noon and spoke to the person who made the call, said Lauderhill police Lt. Michael Santiago.
The shots were reported to be coming from the area of Northwest 19th Street and State Road 7.
“The 911 caller stated they observed a black male with light-colored pants and a bandanna shooting indiscriminately into the air,” Santiago said.
The caller told police he followed the shooter into the Winn-Dixie but lost sight of him after that.
Lauderhill police and a SWAT unit from the Broward Sheriff’s Office sealed off the area, set up a perimeter and then went into the grocery store, but no gunman was found.
There were no reports of any injuries at any time, Santiago said.
Police will review area surveillance cameras and speak to people who were in the area to determine if anyone with a gun was ever present and if shots were fired.
The person who made the 911 call is cooperating with investigators, Santiago said.
