Nico Flores has been working at the Miami Children’s Museum for almost two years. The 24-year-old didn’t let autism get in the way of him having a job he loves.

“We’re always on our toes. It gets busy, but I like it because it isn’t boring,” Flores said.

Flores is part of The de Moya Foundation, a local non-profit organization committed to creating employment opportunities for young adults with unique abilities by building longterm partnerships with the employers and providing support for the employees.

“I feel like they did a good job because honestly I didn’t know what I wanted to do so I said why not do something with kids, so ultimately they paired me up here,” said Flores.

The nonprofit’s goal is to foster hope, confidence and independence to ensure successful employment outcomes and community inclusion.

“There’s never really a day that’s the same. It’s great.”

The de Moya Foundation is always looking to collaborate with educational institutions, organizations, families, and the business community to provide opportunities for young adults with special needs.
