Police have a person of interest in custody who is expected to be charged with murdering a University of Miami architecture student in his Coral Gables apartment almost three weeks ago, according to law enforcement sources.
The suspect, according to sources, is a homeless man in his late 20s who is most often seen in the southwest end of Miami-Dade County. Few other details were immediately available.
Yasser Talal Ibrahim Abualfaraj, 23, was found stabbed to death the afternoon of Oct. 7 inside his second-floor apartment in Coral Gables, not far from campus.
Police sources said the senior was stabbed to death, though officially police only said he suffered “multiple signs of trauma.” Photos from the crime scene showed a blood trail that began outside the apartment door.
Abualfaraj was a Saudi Arabian national who studied architecture at the University of Miami. Friends described him as a straight-A student and one of the nicest people they had ever met.
Though the murder happened at an apartment building at 6580 Santona St. in the Gables, Miami-Dade police investigated the crime.
