Miami-Dade commissioners have renamed the 9500 block of Fontainebleau Boulevard as “José Milton Way,” a tribute to the late Cuban-American developer.

Milton, hailed for his philanthropic contributions, died at 83 in 2013. The dedication happened June 15, attended by Milton’s family, Miami Mayor Tomás Regalado, Miami-Dade County Property Appraiser Pedro Garcia, Jackson Health System CEO Carlos Migoya, and Miami-Dade Commissioners Esteban “Steve” Bovo, Jose “Pepe” Diaz, Joe Martinez and Javier Souto, who sponsored the renaming. Souto’s resolution credited Milton with “a key role in the transformation of the Sunny Isles Beach skyline” and for being a “tireless champion of helping to fund public parks throughout Miami-Dade County.”
