Residents in one South Florida could have a new option when it comes to traveling to a proposed Publix Supermarket in the area – by boat.

The Orlando Sentinel reported that a Miami based development company recently purchased a vacant lot located on South Ocean Drive not far from the Diplomat Beach Resort in Hollywood.

Under the proposed plan, the area would be used for – among other things – a Publix that would be complete with dock access for anyone who wants to take their boat to get what they need.

“We’re going to try to make it as big as possible,” TransAmerican president Albert Benalloun said by telephone Tuesday. “We’re going to try to get as many boats as we can.”

The company must get the approval of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, which controls development along canals in South Florida, before they can proceed with construction plans.

Josh Levy, the mayor of Hollywood, has previously expressed support for the proposal. Benalloum has said that he intends to speak with neighbors of a condo near the proposed building site, where a land traffic issue currently exist.
