An overflow crisis has hit the Broward County Animal Care & Adoption shelter.

To help alleviate the influx of dogs and cats, small rescue groups — like United Dog Rescue of Oakland Park — have taken in dozens of dogs who need homes and medical treatment. The rescue group is holding a fundraiser from 6 to 9 p.m. at Matty’s Wilton Park to raise money for the pups, who require veterinary care and attention.

United Dog Rescue is now overcrowded with pooches. The group has taken 23 dogs from Broward Animal Control and expect to take in eight more tomorrow.

“We have some incredible puppies and dogs available for adoption and need monetary donations to care for them all,” the organization said.

Matty’s Wilton Park is located on 2100 Wilton Drive.
