What to Know

  • Arango called her mother when she arrived at school and told her she was going to take a nap.

A teenager from South Florida who had been missing for a week after leaving her home for college has been found.

Miramar Police tweeted that Valentina Arango was found in Pinellas County on Sunday afternoon. Officials did not release her condition at this time.

Arango left her home at noon Sunday and arrived at Stetson University Hatter Hall in DeLand at 5 p.m., according to the GPS on her cellphone. She left in a blue 2015 Toyota Yaris.

Arango called her mother when she arrived at school and told her she was going to take a nap. Her mother called her later that night, but she didn’t answer.

“My worst fear, you don’t know who she’s with, you don’t know people out there and what they can do,” her mother told NBC 6 as she traveled through central Florida, looking for her daughter.

The last transaction Arango made on her credit card was made that same day at a Sunoco Gas Station in DeLand. Police said no one could verify her physically being at the gas station or university.
