Police will be providing extra security to one middle school in Miramar after a text message sent to a student warned of a possible shooting on Wednesday.

Officials tweeted out the message late Tuesday night saying the male student at Glades Middle School got a message from an unknown number with that warning. The student told his parents, who called police.

Miramar Police say they continue to investigate the credibility of the threat while adding extra officers to patrol the area around and inside the school grounds out of an abundance of caution.

The alleged threat is just the latest in South Florida over the past few months, including ones placed to schools in Miramar and Pembroke Pines.

The latest alleged threat comes just over one week before the first anniversary of the deadly mass shooting inside Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, where 17 students and staff members were killed.
