Summer 2019 set a record as one of the hottest summers the Northern Hemisphere has ever faced, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
Global temperatures during the summer of 2019 were nearly two degrees (Fahrenheit) above the 20th-century’s average temperature.
The record is part of a larger trend that began five years ago. The five hottest summers on record have all occurred since 2014.
The numbers come from NOAA’s monthly global climate report.
Other notable facts that came from the report was the 30 percent decrease in sea ice coverage during the month of August.
