A suspect has been arrested in the fatal beating of a homeless man near Fort Lauderdale last month, authorities said Wednesday.

Jose Arturo Bizarro-Cermeno, 44, was taken into custody Tuesday night on a first-degree murder charge in the killing of 46-year-old Youssef Hamraoui, Broward Sheriff’s Office officials said.

The body of Hamraoui was found the night of Oct. 21 by a passerby near a vacant building at 1955 S. State Road 7, officials said. The passerby called 911 believing the man needed medical assistance, but once deputies arrived, they realized the man had been beaten to death.

Detectives say Bizarro-Cermeno and Hamraoui were acquaintances but had an ongoing dispute that led to the killing.
