Suspect pistol-whipped ex-girlfriend and BSO deputy in her home, investigators say

Carl Auguste, charged with attempted murder after an attack on a BSO deputy, followed his ex-girlfriend and the deputy from their dinner date Monday night to her home, where he greeted them in the living room with a gun.

That’s according to the girlfriend’s account in the warrant for Auguste’s arrest. She’s talked to Broward Sheriff’s Office personnel often about Auguste as the alleged victim in his five domestic violence arrests in 2018.

Rescue workers helicoptered her current boyfriend, the still-unnamed deputy, to Broward Health Trauma Center after he was found unconscious bleeding from the head.

Auguste, 23, remains in Broward County Jail on $200,000 bond.

While the woman has a 1-year-old child with Auguste, they split last year. Auguste had moved out by the first of the domestic violence arrests in July.

His ex-girlfriend told BSO investigators that she and the BSO deputy went to dinner at a Miramar restaurant before returning to her Lauderdale Lakes condominium.

Upon returning home, the BSO deputy let her know that he’d seen Auguste at the Miramar restaurant. And, later, both saw him in her apartment’s living room, holding a gun.

The warrant says, “(The woman) stated she did not know how Auguste got into her apartment, but stated that he used to live with her at the location when they dated…”

According to the woman, Auguste crashed the handgun to her head. The BSO deputy joined the fight while telling the woman to go dial 911. When she left, Auguste and the deputy were fighting, and Auguste still had the gun.

The next time she saw the off-duty deputy, BSO Fire Rescue was airlifting him to Broward Health.
