Teen Killed on Bicycle in Pembroke Pines Wasn’t Hit-and-Run Victim: Police

A teenage boy initially thought to have been fatally struck by a hit-and-run driver while riding his bicycle in Pembroke Pines is believed to have been killed after crashing his bike, authorities said Tuesday.

The boy, identified as 14-year-old Bora Duz, was riding his bicycle in the 1900 block of Northwest 196th Avenue around 8 p.m. Monday when the crash happened.

Police said the preliminary investigation suggested a hit-and-run crash but said medical evidence and “investigative developments” confirmed that no hit-and-run occurred.

“No other contributing factors beyond the juvenile, and his bicycle, are affiliated with the incident,” police said in a statement. “The matter is considered a single vehicle (bicycle) crash which resulted in an unintended fatality.”

Family members said Duz was a student at Silver Trail Middle School.
