The Doors Alive
Rock Galuppis for the Geritol Set
If you’re in your later 50s or even into your 70s you lived through the age when The Doors were on commercial radio with quite a few number one hits.
Well last night at Galuppi’s in Pompano Beach The Doors Alive from Florida appeared and the Geritol set that follows then showed up, some even with lawn chairs to watch front man Dirk go through his routine that featured lots of spastic arm and face theatrics to mimic the Shaman gyrations that Jim Morrison thrilled live crowds with over fifty years ago.
If you search Facebook for The Doors Alive you will find a popular UK bank with a young Jim Morrison look alike that has amassed over 100k fans on Facebook.
The Dirk led band has just short of 1,000 fans on Facebook a nice following for a local band.
While the raspy vocals of Dirk sounded more like Joe Cocker doing a Doors set, overall the nice sized crowd of a mostly 60+ crowd seemed to have enjoyed the performance.
The brown leather pants clad Dirk (what Morrison usually wore) resembled Morrison in his last days in Paris when the poet Rock Star succumbed to his date of fate to join others of his generation like Hendrix, Joplin and Moon in the infamous 27 Club.
If you enjoy the music of The Doors we think you should try to see this Tribute band when they are in the area.
If you are looking to find a youthful Morrison look alike like the guy in the UK version of The Doors Alive, then you will need to go to the UK.
We saw Rex Luciferius in the crowd and Dirk was seen coming up to him to say hello. Rex had a #1 hit on SoundCloud last summer with his own cover of The Doors classic Back Door Man. Rex has over 40 million Plays on numerous accounts on SoundCloud. He has had a handful of #1 Hits on SoundCloud and put 25 songs into the Top 10 charts on SoundCloud in an astonishing five genres of music. SoundCloud is the #1 music app in the world for kids under 22. Rex recently dropped 25 original singles with Will.I.AMs new label. His band is one of the top ranked Indie bands in the world as tracked by ReverbNation.
If you like Tribute Bands, you might want to check out Sticky Fingers a Dead Tribute band more focused on solid music over theatrics, they appear monthly at the Dive bar. Another solid Tribute band in South Florida is Crush a Rush tribute band. Although Crush when Young Jason Dean Moshen joins them makes Crush one our top cover bands in Florida. Jason usually sits out the Rush Tribute gigs.
If you like Rage Against The Machine then the last Saturday night of every month at Fat Cats Original you need to catch Repeat Offenders led by Chris Cavanaugh.
Jaded is another solid Tribute band doing Aerosmith in the area.
