A tourist from Texas was injured Sunday afternoon in an airboat accident in the Everglades in western Broward, according to Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue.

The accident happened at about 1:30 p.m. Sunday in the waters off I-75 at mile marker 35.

According to the fire rescue department, two airboats collided. One of the airboats carried a mother, father and teenage son and an airboat captain. The other airboat carried one man.

The husband and wife, who were sitting in the front seat of the commercial airboat, were ejected from the boat, fire rescue spokesman Mike Jachles said.

The man was not injured, but the woman suffered “trauma to her lower extremities,” Jachles said.

She was airlifted to Broward Health Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, the agency which will likely investigate, could not be reached for comment Sunday.
