Two horses are dead after a pick-up truck plunged into two horseback riders Sunday in Southwest Ranches.

The two people riding the horses— an adult and a 9-year-old girl — were transported to Memorial Regional Hospital’s trauma center in Hollywood with serious injuries, according to the Davie Fire Department. Their condition is unknown.

One of the victims was airlifted; the other was taken via ground transport, Fire Battalion Chief Richard Hopwood told the Miami Herald.

Officials said it’s unclear if speed was a factor. There are no stop signs along that road.

The crash happened along Griffin Road near Southwest 198th Terrace. The roads remained closed Sunday evening as homicide investigators flooded the scene.
