Two men in yarmulkes are attacked while having breakfast at a Miami Beach Dunkin’ Donuts

A morning routine — breakfast at a Miami Beach Dunkin’ Donuts — turned into a trip to the hospital for two of the men and the capture of a suspect who police say sent them there.

According to Miami Beach police spokesman Ernesto Rodriguez, a man walked into the kosher Dunkin’ Donuts on 341 41st St. at about 5:35 a.m. Thursday. He hit one of the elderly men — who were said to be wearing yarmulkes, according to WPLG Local 10 — and a “struggle then ensued with an elderly bystander along with the subject and original victim.”

Rodriguez declined to discuss whether this was a hate crime.

The man then fled from Dunkin’ and was found by police hiding on the rooftop of a nearby business in the commercial corridor. He was taken into custody and is being interviewed, Rodriguez said.

Both elderly men were taken to the hospital, Rodriguez said.
