Thursday, the University of Miami – along with local officers in the city’s fight against the opioid epidemic – will announce a new Narcan distribution program at the school’s needle exchange center.

Narcan is used to reverse the effects of an overdose while needle exchanges help cut down on transmitted diseases, including HIV.

The program is the first public exchange and prevention center of its kind in the state.
