A family of four is homeless after an early morning fire destroyed their Broward County home Tuesday.

About 30 firefighters responded to the home in the 4900 block of Southwest 50th Avenue in unincorporated Fort Lauderdale around 1 a.m., Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue officials said.

Roberto Su said his wife, who is five months pregnant, awoke to smoke in the home.

“Around 1 a.m. the house had smoke and my wife woke up and quickly I told her to get the kids out of the house and I ran and I saw there was flames coming out of the corner of my son’s bedroom,” Su said.

Firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze but not before it spread throughout the home, leaving it completely destroyed.

“The whole house is a total loss, we don’t have any clothes or nothing,” Su said. “I’m grateful that nothing happened to my children or my family, that’s the most important thing.”

The cause of the fire is under investigation. Su said his family has lived in the home for about three years.

“It’s going to be a hard start now, we have nothing right now,” he said.
