From fun-filled food and music festivals to a huge volleyball tournament on the beach, there’s a lot to do this weekend in South Florida. Read on to see how you can plan out your weekend. 

FESTIVALS: 

2018 Okeechobee Music & Arts Festival

The third annual Okeechobee Music and Arts Festival begins on Thursday, and the four-day event will be packed with live performances, interactive art exhibits, yoga workshops, tea lounges, and more. Among the musicians performing are Bassnectar, Travis Scott, Arcade Fire and Zeds Dead. The outdoor camping festival is in Okeechobee’s Sunshine Grove, at 12517 NE 91st Ave., Okeechobee, FL. 34972. Florida Renaissance Festival at Quiet Waters Park

Travel back in time to the days of yore at the Florida Renaissance Festival at Quiet Waters Park this weekend. There will be live demonstrations of 16th century activities such as steel-fighting, glassblowing, archery and more. The event is family-friendly with a “Kid’s Kingdom” and the event opens at 10 a.m. The festival is available to enjoy until March 25. To purchase tickets and for information, click here. 

Miami Lakes Food and Wine Festival

For the first time, Miami Lakes will host its first Food and Wine Festival on Saturday, March 3. Food, wine and specialty beers will be available during the networking event, which will be held at the Miami Lakes Optimist Clubhouse and Park. The events is from 6 to 9 p.m. for general admission and 5 to 7 p.m. for VIP admission. For more information click here. 

Carnaval On the Mile

This weekend, head over to Coral Gables for Carnaval Miami: “A celebration of all things ‘Miami.’” The event will feature Hispanic art, music, fashion, food and sports and various events, including “Cork & Fork” and “Cordials & Canada.” “Cork & Fork” will feature renowned local chefs, samples from more than 40 Miami restaurants and a personal cooking class. “Cordials & Canada” is all about dessert and sweet treats. There will also be a candy bar, cigars and aromatic coffees. There are admission costs for the “Cork & Fork” and “Cordials & Canada” events, but you can explore the colorful tents, vendors and displays that are a staple of Carnaval for free. THEATER:

Wicked, Broward Center for the Performing Arts

Broadway’s infamous Wicked will be playing at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts this weekend. The play looks at the story at one of the antagonists in the popular novel/movie, “The Wizard of Oz:” The wicked witch. There are showings until Sunday in the afternoon and evening. The Color Purple, Adrienne Arsht Center

Tony award-winning musical “The Color Purple” will be showing at the Adrienne Arsht Center through Sunday, March 4. The show looks at “a young woman’s journey to love and triumph in the American South,” according to the website. Tickets are available for purchase here. 

SPORTS:

Fort Lauderdale Major Beach Volleyball Tournament

From Feb. 27 to March 4, top USA beach volleyball athletes– along with Olympic and World Champion players — will take over Fort Lauderdale Beach for the Beach Major Series event. The players will vie for a $600,000 prize, according to the website. The surrounding area by the stadium will be full of attractions, food trucks, and parties, and admission is free.
