YSF – Care Before Cuffs

Last week the City of Miami Police Department received $1.6 million in grants from the Justice Department to fund the Collaborative Law Enforcement Addiction Recovery program – or CLEAR. It partners police with the South Florida Behavioral Health Network, The University of Miami Health System, and other agencies to give those found with small amounts of opioids (or other drugs) a choice between jail or a one-year outpatient treatment program. We get details from Miami Police Chief Jorge Colina, and the medical professionals tasked with helping these addicts get the help they need.
