In 2016 a toxic algae bloom consumed the waters of the Treasure Coast. Originating in Lake Okeechobee, the blue-green slime made its way down the Saint Lucie River towards the east coast – and slinked its way down the Caloosahatchee River out toward Florida’s west coast – impacting local businesses and the economy.
